SAGE Scholars program
Paying for college can be tough. That’s why SEFCU has partnered with SAGE (Savings and Growth for Education) Scholars to offer “points” toward your college student’s private school tuition based on the balance in your SEFCU account.
How does it work? Parents can enroll their child for the SAGE Scholars program by the end of his or her sophomore year of high school by clicking here or stopping by any SEFCU branch. The earlier you enroll, the more points you accumulate!
Once your child is enrolled, balances in your SEFCU account (including your checking, all savings* accounts, and share certificates) will be added together. Each quarter you will receive “points” to use toward tuition which equal 1.25% of your asset balance. Each point equals $1 that can be used to pay for college tuition (room and board is not included). If you want to earn even more, have other family members sign up. Grandparents, aunts, and uncles can also have their account balances count toward the number of points you earn!
| Frequently Asked Questions! |
Can the points be used at any college? The points you earn can be redeemed at over 200 private colleges across the country, and the list is growing every day. To see what schools accept SAGE Scholars points, click here.
How will this affect financial aid? The SAGE Scholars program is completely separate from your financial aid package and won’t affect the amount your family is eligible for. It also has no impact on your student’s eligibility for scholarships, so encourage them to apply!
Can we lose points? Once your balance has been calculated, you can’t lose points unless you close your SEFCU account, or cash them in toward tuition costs. Even if your son or daughter decides to attend a college or university that doesn’t accept the points toward tuition, they can be transferred to another child in your immediate family or to a niece or nephew.
